ASOS | The Green Room

ASOS AFRICA Top Hey y'all! I found another great source of sustainable fashion! ASOS is one of the companies that I don't mind purchasing from because they have a Corporate Responsibility  (check it out!) page to where you can find information about their corporate culture and how they are working towards becoming a more sustainable fashion company. The Green Room is a site within ASOS where those who are interested in purchasing sustainable fashions or beauty goods can go to learn about sustainability and purchase from manufacturers who use sustainable business practices. Made Hair Crown The green room features products that are either ethically made, environmentally friendly, reclaimed vintage, support organizations or charities, or products that are domestically manufactured within that specific country which supports local jobs and uses local resources. The site also provides a glossary of terminology for sustainable fashion here . ASOS AFRICA Dress...

Fashion Ed | Sweat Free Brands

Hey guys, so it has been a while since I have posted a Fashion Ed topic, so I want to get back to posting those at least once a month and this month I wanted to talk about Sweat Free Brands. "Sweat free" means that the item was not made in a workshop or factory where the workers are subjected to dangerous and poor working conditions and low wages.  For anyone who is attempting to purchase ethically made items, you may think you are limited in your choices. Some usually resort to thrift shopping or making their own clothing, but most of us will not resort to those measures right away. Myself for instance, I try to shop at retailers who are trying to become more ethically responsible and who at least have their sustainability/ethic clauses or reports available for the public to see.  Here are a few brands that are sweat free: 1. American Apparel Sleeveless Crop Top Mostly known for their risquĂ© advertising, American Apparel offers sweat free clothing...

Wish-list | Spring Essentials

net-a-porter zara zara zara asos Hey guys! I wanted to list some items that are on my spring  to own/lust after/whine if I can't get it/wish-list. The Oxford button up for the shirt dressing trend and a pleated skirt ( also on trend). An  athletic sandal to go with any sportif look, a trench because it's a classic, and a pop of bright color that can carry you through summer in a clutch. What are some items on you wish-list for spring? -Desi

Wish-list | Slip on Sneakers

Morning Y'all ! I currently have an obscene obsession with slip on sneakers. They have been trending for awhile, but I swear every time I see Rumi Neely from Fashiontoast in these shoes, see here , I become even more obsessed and now I just need them in my life. The pair  I'm living for are these bad boys from Steve Madden (see above). I hope to eventually have those pair along with maybe 2 and 4. Can't go wrong with leopard print and the classic white vans! -Desi 1 , 2 , 3 , 4 , 5 , 6

Pantone Color of 2014

Pantone just announced  that the Pantone Color of 2014 is Radiant Orchid. "While the 2013 color of the year, PANTONE 17-5641 Emerald, served as a symbol of growth, renewal and prosperity, Radiant Orchid reaches across the color wheel to intrigue the eye and spark the imagination," said Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute." An invitation to innovation, Radiant Orchid encourages expanded creativity and originality, which is increasingly valued in today's society." " An enchanting harmony of fuchsia, purple and pink undertones, Radiant Orchid inspires confidence and emanates great joy, love and health. It is a captivating purple, one that draws you in with its beguiling charm." Radiant Orchid's rosy undertones radiate on the skin, producing a healthy glow when worn by both men and women, A dazzling attention-getter, Radiant Orchid permeated the runways during the spring 2014 fashion shows and is al...

Fashion Ed: Fashion Flow Theories

Today I want to discuss the theories of Fashion Flow: Downward, Horizontal, and Upward. You probably have heard these terms before but I want to go into further detail as to what they mean and the difference between them. Downward Flow Theory ( Trickle - Down) This theory is the most widely known and the oldest theory of fashion adoption. The basic definition in short-to be identified as a true fashion, styles must first be adopted by those at the top of the social pyramid, then the style is eventually accepted at the lower social levels. This theory assumes that there is a social hierarchy in which lower income people seek to identify with more affluent people. Because those at the top want to disassociate themselves with the lower social level, once the fashion or style has flowed to the lower social level, the upper classes will reject it and move on to the next new fashion. The phrase "that is so last season" comes to mind when I think of this theory. Ag...

Fashion Profile | Gwen Stefani

I wanted to start my fashion profile posts with one of my favorite musician/designers: Gwen Stefani. Ever since her debut with No Doubt, Gwen Stefani  has become to be known around the world for her eclectic, unique and original personal style. She is recognized by fashion trend-setters by constantly changing her image and tirelessly searching out new and interesting style influences, which has resulted over time in a dramatic evolution from SoCal rocker girl to cover-girl sexpot, avant-garde experimentalist to established fashion icon. I remember first being influenced by her style back when she used to wear a bindi on her forehead which  you can see in the "Just a girl" video. I thought she looked so cool that I went and got these gem stickers and started wearing them at school. Her most fashionable videos (In my opinion) are "What you waiting for" and "Cool" "What You Waiting For" was inspired by Alice...

A lil obsessed | Fashion Sweatshirts

Sweatshirts = Fashionable!?! Sign me up! Being that I'm sort of fresh out of university, this is a trend that I can definitely work into my wardrobe. Instead of pairing these with some busted jeans, I would pair these with a leather mini or pencil skirt to make it chic. They were all over the runways and I've seen some outfits from  Wendy's Lookbook  (she's amazing) and she pulls together the fashion sweatshirt look flawlessly, see  here  and  here . Now to decide which one of these to purchase. Hmmm… 1 , 2 , 3 , 4 , 5 , 6

Fashion Ed: Fashion Adoption Theory (The Devil Wears Prada scene)

This was by far one of my favorite scenes from the movie. Even though she is tearing Andy a new one, I completely understood everything Miranda was saying. I feel that she describes the fashion adoption  theory and a little bit of the trickle down theory perfectly.  From Miranda describing the color cerulean and  how it was presented in a collection of Oscar De La Renta's gowns to her stating that Andy fished her sweater out of a clearance bin, she nails it. I love this movie!

A lil obsessed: Tory Burch Charlie Box Chain Necklace

I am not that much of a jewelry person, I'm a studs and one ring kind of girl, but I am hyperventilating over this beautiful necklace. Box or curb chain necklaces are a classic staple that every girl should have in their jewelry box and I am currently devoid of one. I was recently browsing through Wendy's Lookbook (I absolutely love her) and one of my favorite looks from her is here . I love the look but my eyes went straight to the necklace and now it is all I can think about. It is sold out and I cannot seem to find it anywhere but I will find this necklace if it is the last thing I do! -Desi

A lil obsessed: Lug sole shoes

ASOS  Strider heeled loafers  /Pour La Victoire  Kerr / ASOS  Planet shoes /Sergio Rossi Freedom wedge (shoe photos from their respective sites) I can't seem to get these shoes out of my mind at the moment. If your not sure what a lug sole is, it is the thick rubber sole with deep indentations usually found on work or hiking boots and is used to improve traction and stability. Some genius decided to combine the ruggedness of this sole with booties and high heeled pumps and voilĂ ...lug soles are i n  fashion. They were all over the fall runways and now I just need to get my hands on a pair....that's preferably on sale.

As If...pt.2

Here is another outfit inspired by Clueless . This outfit is worn in the scene where Cher and Tai make up while watching Travis skate. One of my favorites :)

H&M Online!!

www.hm.com OMG!! ok woooooosawwww... I just found out that after many delays, H&M has finally launched their online store for the US and I am hyperventilating. Alright maybe I'm not freaking out that bad but I have waited very very long time for this day.The closest H&M store for me is an hour and a half drive away! Of course I would make the drive but it was very seldom that I did. Along with every item that is sold in the brick and mortar locations being available online, they have also launched their H&M Home collection, and you can pre-order collections before they are launched. Not that I need even more of a reason to shop there. So now I am perusing the site and I just do not know how to deal right now. Hopefully I don't go all Confessions of a Shopaholic cray and max out my credit card(s)....we will see...my closet needs some serious updating anyway. Maybe a future post will be about my (massive) haul!

AS IF

So I recently watched Clueless and was reminded of why I seem to watch it over and over again and it never gets old. I love the outfits in the film and have always wanted to emulate them in real life so i would say that this is my attempt. I'm going to post some boards (I'm currently obsessed with polyvore) featuring modern versions of the iconic costumes. Hope you like them! Weekend Ready

I love a good old tank dress! Its easy and breezy to wear when you just wanna get up and go, specially on the weekend. I recently acquired one and am now thinking of ways to style the oh so simple dress. I made this collage and thought the brown bag and sandals go really well with it along with a giant over sized watch. Now let the hunt for the accessories began!
